MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE STRASBURG TOWN COUNCIL HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2006, AT 7:15 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS OF THE TOWN HALL.

COUNCIL MEMBERS present:  Mayor Crisman, Vice Mayor Taylor, and Council Members Le Vine, Mauck, Nicholson, Rinker, Terndrup, Wallace, and Whittle.

Mayor Crisman introduced Mrs. Dora Buck, representing Hometown Strasburg, Inc. who, along with Mr. Richard Seelbach, gave a presentation on the grant being applied for.  Mrs. Buck explained Hometown Strasburg is affiliated with the Virginia Main Street Program and the grant they are applying for is a TEA-21.  The program is designed to enhance and revitalize the appearance of the Town.  Council had received information on this in their Council Packets and Mrs. Buck referred to sketches, etc. included in this and also showed diagrams prepared by Virginia Tech students.  She brought attention to an additional sketch of a proposed information center planned for one of the sites.  One park is planned to be built beside the Strasburg Fire Department and Hometown Strasburg has a letter of intent to purchase another lot.  The lot is ~2000 sq. ft. and this is where the information center would be constructed.  She also discussed the “stamped” crosswalks.  Mr. Seelbach showed where the crosswalks would be located and said VDOT has spoken to them about this proposal.

Mrs. Buck said they are asking the Town to endorse this grant proposal and be its sponsor; they have to have a government organization to sponsor the project in order to move forward.  The deadline for the grant is November 1 and they are very close to having it completed.  They have received a resolution from Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors.

Mrs. Buck concluded by saying representatives of Hometown Strasburg, Inc. would be attending the Council meeting to answer questions.

As there were no comments from citizens, the Public Hearing closed at 7:23 p.m.
