Established as the Citizen's Fire Company Number 1 in 1908, the Strasburg Fire Department is an all volunteer organization responding to an average of 300 incidents per year. In its fleet today are three Seagrave engines ranging in year from 1980 to 1989, a 1966 Seagrave Tractor-drawn aerial ladder truck, a heavy squad, a brush truck, and a special emergency response vehicle. The Strasburg Fire Department is also home to Shenandoah County's only Swift Water Rescue Team.
The Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer organization that was established in 1963. Today the company has in its fleet four ambulances ranging in year from 1992 to 2000, a mobile personnel transportation vehicle, a mass casualty response trailer, and a medium duty squad. Presently the organization has 60 members and has responded to more than 32,000 calls since being established in 1963.
