THERE’S MORE LOVE TO GO AROUND

Strasburg, Va. – With over 300 installations, the LOVEworks program is a state-wide initiative designed to promote travel and tourism in Virginia and strengthen awareness of the “Virginia is for Lovers” brand messaging. In 2016, The Town of Strasburg partnered with the Virginia Tourism Corporation to develop the community’s pilot design.

We are excited to announce a NEW LOVEworks installation will be coming to the Strasburg Square at 216 E. King Street in downtown Strasburg. The new LOVEworks design will consist of four 3x4ft pieces of painted sheet metal, cut by Dennis Johnson, mounted to the industrial pedestrian bridge on the southeast corner along the Town Run. These letters will combine our Germanic roots and vibrant character with the use of Fraktur designs, painted by local artist Barbara Plitt. Fraktur designs often represent the rural surroundings and beliefs of the Pennsylvania Germans who made them. Lively drawings and intricate lettering are basic features of most fraktur with popular images including birds, hearts and flowers.

While the current LOVEworks has been successful in creating a play area for the community, it has posed a few safety and maintenance concerns. Since the inception of our original LOVEworks design, Staufferstadt Arts has installed a permanent play sculpture in the Strasburg Square, removing the need for the LOVEworks design to serve as a play piece. The current LOVEworks installation will be removed, weather permitting, by early spring.

We anticipate this new LOVEworks design to serve as a photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike, as well as add color and texture to our central gathering space. This community is home to many artists, makers, and creators, and we are eager to partner, yet again, to welcome a new LOVE installation.
