Trash Collection Update โ Waste Management Service Delay

- Two crews will be out. One will work on finishing Mondayโs route, while the other begins Tuesdayโs route.
- ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ง๐ต๐๐ฟ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ต:
- Waste Management will try to collect any trash still out from last Thursday and Friday, as load weights and landfill hours allow. However, this is not guaranteed. Anything they canโt collect on Tuesday will be addressed again on Thursday.
- ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐น๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐:
- Collections will start earlier in the mornings over the next few days to maximize the amount collected.
- ๐ง๐ต๐๐ฟ๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ (๐ณ/๐ญ๐ณ-๐ณ/๐ญ๐ด):
- Waste Management plans to have a regular driver plus a second driver dedicated to picking up overflow trash left roadside due to recent delays.
We know these continued delays are incredibly frustrating and not the level of service our residents deserve. Town Council and staff are fully aware of the situation and are actively working with Waste Management to find better solutions, though changes will take time. We understand how unpleasant the smell and overflow have become, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. While Waste Management has faced significant staffing challenges, we also recognize that our responsibility is to deliver reliable service for our community. We want to find a fair and lasting solution for everyone. Weโre also working hard to keep up with phone calls, emails, and comments as quickly as possible. Our goal is to provide clear and timely answers for our residents. We remain committed to keeping residents informed and working toward consistent, dependable service for Strasburg. Waste Management has notified us that they are unable to service Strasburg today due to ongoing staffing issues.
The plan moving forward is as follows:
- Fridayโs missed route from last week will not be collected until this coming Friday (7/18).
- A driver is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, 7/15) to pick up Mondayโs route and begin Tuesdayโs.
- If Tuesdayโs route canโt be fully completed tomorrow, remaining stops will be collected on Wednesday.
- Thursday and Friday routes this week are planned to run as scheduled.
- Waste Management will send an additional truck on Thursday and Friday to collect any extra trash that doesnโt fit in bins due to the delays.
We know these continued delays are incredibly frustrating and not the level of service our residents deserve. Town Council is fully aware of the situation, and Town staff is working to find better long-term solutions, though those changes will take time.
We also understand that the smell and overflow from delayed trash collection is unpleasant, and we sincerely apologize. Each day we have been told service would resume the following day, and we share updates as soon as information becomes available to us.
While Waste Management has been dealing with significant staffing challenges contributing to these disruptions, we also recognize that, at the end of the day, our responsibility is to ensure reliable service for our community.
For transparency: The Townโs current contract with Waste Management was bid in 2019 as part of a regional effort with other localities. Waste Management was the only bidder at that time. The initial contract was for three years, with an optional three-year renewal, which was exercised. The current contract is set to expire in June 2026.

Trash Collection Update โ Friday, July 11
We want to share the latest update regarding trash collection in the Town of Strasburg.
Waste Management continues to work through staffing challenges. The driver assisting today was brought in from outside the area and collected a mix of Thursday and Friday routes.
Weโve just been notified that Waste Management does not have the resources to complete a Saturday pick-up. Any remaining trash from this week will be pushed to Monday (7/14).

We understand how frustrating and inconvenient these disruptions are, especially for a service that residents pay for and rely on. Waste Management continues to experience staffing shortages impacting trash collection in the Town of Strasburg.

A driver from another location is assisting today and is currently working through Thursdayโs routes. Once those are complete, he will begin Fridayโs pickups.
At this time, itโs uncertain whether both Thursday and Friday routes will be fully completed today, or if some collections will need to be pushed to ๐๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐, ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ (๐ณ/๐ญ๐ฎ).
If your trash is not picked up today, please leave it out, as crews may start early tomorrow to complete remaining routes.
We understand the frustration these delays cause and are in ongoing communication with Waste Management to minimize impacts and ensure service is restored as quickly as possible.

The Town of Strasburg has been notified by Waste Management that there will be no trash collection today (Monday, July 7) due to staffing issues on their end.
๐ Mondayโs trash route will be collected tomorrow (Tuesday, July 8).
At this time, Waste Management plans to maintain the current schedule for the remainder of this week (Tuesday through Friday). If anything changes, we will share updates as soon as possible.
